About Owl Guide

Owl Guide is an independent resource for anyone curious about Great Horned Owl, Barred Owl, Eastern Screech-Owl, Barn Owl, and Snowy Owl. We focus on practical, biologically accurate advice — including being upfront about the fact that owls simply can’t be attracted the way most backyard birds can.

Our Approach

Owls have genuinely unique biology: silent, specially structured flight feathers, a sound-focusing facial disc, ears set at different heights on the head, and eyes so large and fixed in place that the whole head has to rotate instead. We write from that biology outward, and we’re direct about where this family diverges from the feeder-based advice common across most backyard bird content, including our own other guides.
